Happy 4th of July everyone!!! This morning we got up bright and early to head into Beattyville to Bob Smith’s Birthday/Fourth of July breakfast at the Happy Top Community Center. We joined my family and many others there for a fun time of fellowship and eating way way too much breakfast. I had some of the best biscuits and gravy that I have enjoyed in a long time!
In past years the 4th would have been spent going to a picnic or having people over the house for a cook out, watching the Nathan’s hot dog contest at Coney Island on ESPN, and then heading out sometime later in the evening to watch fireworks in town or perhaps set some off ourselves. However, this year things are different with having our precious daughter Maeven in our lives. We came home and spent a day playing with her and doing laundry and various cleaning projects around the house. I did however get to watch Joey Chestnut win his 5th hot dog eating contest in a row though!
In a few hours various fireworks displays are going to start going off, but my precious little girl is now laying in her crib watching her mobile display lights, gently swing animals, and play mozart as she fall asleep. As I took her back to the room a little bit ago to rock her for a bit, sing some lullabies, and pray with her before laying in her crib, I smiled as I thought to myself how I wouldn’t trade that time for the best fireworks display in the world! There was no sacrifice today in giving up past traditions to spend time enjoying the amazing gift God gave us in our beautiful daughter!
