facebook hypocrites…

Over the past few years I have noticed a trend on Facebook that seems to be getting worse and worse.  I have noticed people either pasting some chain status message about how much the love God or even writing some bold statement of what God means to them constantly.  While this isn’t a bad thing what concerns me more is what you would see if you looked at the various posts that surround these professions of loving God and claiming a relationship with Him.

In these surrounding posts often following a declaration of love for Christ we see everything from crude/foul language to slanderous gossip, to simple OMG’s that are totally against our Lord.  When we read the ten commandments in the book of Exodus one the commandments is not to take the Lord’s name in vain. While we often think of this as just saying one of God’s names carelessly, when we claim to know and Love Christ yet live lives that are in direct opposition to these claims we are are taking His name in vain.

If you have been reading any of my posts lately you can tell that one of the things that God has been dealing with me on and convicting me of is the need to make sure that I am guarding my testimony and being bold for Christ with all whom I come in contact with.  When I see Facebook friends who claim to know my God that I love so very much making bold statements for Christ followed by statements that totally destroy their testimony I am truly saddened.  They totally forget that they may be the only “Christian” example that some people may have and that’s not something to ever take lightly.  So many people are looking for any excuse they can find to reject God and are looking for hypocrites to justify their rejection.  We cannot give them that excuse!

I guess the point of this post is just to say this remember we are not to take the name of our God lightly or in vain.  If you are going to claim Him, please live a life that honors Him and shows other’s what God has done for us, on both Facebook and in our everyday life.  If you can’t do this, I beg of you leave God out of your posts don’t be the negative excuse that someone is looking for in order to justify their rejection of God.
