Tonight I find myself enjoying one of my favorite TV shows American Pickers. For those of you who may have not watched the show before it’s a reality show about these two guys from Iowa who travel all around the USA stopping in on hoarders and junk people looking for antiques and rare items to buy. The show usually shows the guys picking through junk and then going back and forth trying to get the price they want with the owner.
The best part of the show really is the interaction between the pickers, Frank and Mike, and the people they meet as they travel. Some of the people are pretty normal who are just collectors and hobbyist. Other people are totally nutty and live in mounds of junk that they brought home from who knows where. As Mike put it, pickin is a disease and we all got it!
Another thing I love about the show is the fact that they tell the history behind the items that are purchased and also what the value of the items are compared to what the guys pay for them. Being a history buff it’s fun to see how something that has this look of total junk is actually an amazing piece of history.
If you get a chance I highly recommend you check out the show American Pickers. I even have my beautiful wife into watching it!
