As the year coming to a close and another is getting ready to start this the time when many are making their new year’s resolutions and vowing to do stuff better. I see every year as many people join our biggest loser contest just how soon those commitments and resolutions can fade. That being said, I have tried to avoid setting unrealistic expectations for my self in the past and sticking to the small stuff.
This year I wanted to resolve to do something that would help me out on a spiritual level as well. And as I began thinking of what I could do, I remembered how little I read now since becoming a father. With work and wanting to spend time at home with the family I have really slacked on my reading. So this year, I am resolving to get up earlier or whatever it takes to become a better reader. To aid in kicking off this resolution well, I used a gift certificate to CBD, that I got for my bday, to purchase four books.
The first book I am going to read is “When Work and Family Collide” by Andy Stanley. Seeing as how I constantly feel the strain of balancing ministry and family time I am really excited about this book. I also bought Tim Tebow’s autobiography and will be digging into it soon. While I have never been a big Tebow fan, with the way the media constantly talks about him or how many young christian girls who don’t understand football drool over him, the other night I had an opportunity to see a segment on SportsCenter where Tebow was miched up for a whole game. To hear him sharing Jesus and singing praise and worship during an NFL game was very inspiring. So that made me want to read his book. And lastly one of my favorite blogs is Stuff Christians Like by Jon Acuff. So I decided to read both of his books “Stuff Christians Like” and “Quitter”.
I will do my best as my commitment to reading this year develops to right some book reports and share what I have learned and also help recommend some books to you. I’m not sure what this week will bring, so if I don’t write again soon, have a happy New Year!!!
