an unexpected date…

This morning started off as busy as ever with going to visit a local high school for an FCA Coaches Breakfast. It was great to be with the coaches as they heard a devotion from the Word and enjoyed a time of fellowship around a great breakfast. From there I was supposed to pick up my wife and go to interview a potential hire for our area with FCA. Not sure what happened but the interviewee didn’t show up. However, rather than being discouraged or upset, I actually had a great time. For the past few weeks I have been traveling like crazy for training and other ministry things, which has been great but has been tough being away from my family.

Today was perfect though, as I was able to accidentally get a nice coffee date to enjoy some time catching up with my wife. Nothing exciting or life changing happened, but just being able to enjoy each other’s company and not be in a rush to the next thing was a huge blessing. Throw on top of that some really good coffee and it it was pretty awesome. While most times someone not showing up for a meeting is a pain, today it was a blessing that I am thankful for!

quality floor time…

love these two munchkins!

love these two munchkins!

Last night, I came up stairs from a few hours of doing office work in order to get ready for the upcoming week.  When I entered the living room I was greeted by my little curly headed Judah, who was raising his claws at me and growling like a bear.  There was only one thing to do, get down on the floor and growl back at him!

As soon as I sat down on the floor I was immediately attacked.  Judah came running at me full steam and jumped at me.   I hadn’t seen my daughter Maeven, sitting in a chair behind me and before I knew it she came flying at me from behind.  For the next 30 minutes or so we had an epic wrestling/tickling match.  There were lots of giggles, screams, and belly laughs had by all.  The moment I thought we were through, someone would grab onto my neck or jump on my back and the battle was back on.

It was a great reminder that my children’s love language is quality time.  More than movies, toys, or anything else, they just want time with their Dad.  As the end of the year approaches things are getting more and more busy and to be honest quite often overwhelming.  In the midst of feeling like I am drowning in all that, I am so thankful for the reminder from God last night about how much quality time is important to my kids.  No matter how busy the calendar looks, there must always be times for those wrestling matches, book readings, and just being tackled.  I never want to take for granted the blessing that God has given me in my sweet kiddos!

a snow day to catch up…

Monday’s at the Rec Center are usually pretty hectic with trying to clean up and recover from the busy weekend, as well as get ready for the week ahead.   Besides getting ahead and catching up, Mondays also are busy with after school bowling league and homeschooling our student.  Today however, I awoke to a very nice surprise….snow!

With the snow, came a text that school in Lee County had been cancelled and when there is a snow day there is not teaching or after school leagues.  And while I do love those ministries after a week away at the missions conference, I really needed a day to catch up on lots of stuff.   I was able to get lots of office work like updating the website and making billing invoices for food orders completed as well as work on studies for upcoming Bible studies and FCA.

God is always giving me so much to be thankful for, but days like today are a huge blessing.  When life gets hectic and looks even more hectic in the future, snow days like today are a blessing to be able to breath, get caught up and even get ahead.   I am truly thankful for my snow day, and maybe even secretly wishing it will be cold enough that their will be no school tomorrow as well!

a blessed time of sharing and fellowship…

Yesterday, I wrote a blog about how Erin and I are at  a missions conference at one of our supporting churches.   This morning we had the opportunity to share with both adult and teen Sunday school classes about our ministry in Beattyville.  It was a blessing to be able to share and then talk with so many people who have been praying for us and have had a huge impact on our lives and ministry that we had never even met.

After church this morning we went out for lunch with an older couple from the church whose granddaughter and grandson-in-law were friends of mine when I was at Moody.  We really enjoyed our time with them and hearing about how they have been in this church for over 50 years.  Maeven especially enjoyed the “Care Bear” they gave her and hugged it most of the afternoon.

Tonight we had a very exciting and challenging message about what God is doing in missions around the world, particularly in Central Asia and various Muslim Countries.  It was great to hear how so many people are coming to Christ in such persecution and violence.  I was definitely challenged in my faith to be bolder in a country where I have such freedom to share Christ!

Maeven has really enjoyed being able to practice her walking and also crawl all over the church.  The opportunity to play in a large nursery and meet lots of new kids has been great for her.  Tonight she had played and enjoyed herself so much that she fell asleep immediately.

This conference has been so encouraging that we can’t wait to see what else God has in store!

sharing about the Rec Center…

This week Erin and I are having the privilege of sharing about our ministry here with KMM to friends and supporters at one of our supporting churches.   It is always a huge blessing when we are able to spend time with so many people who have been praying for us over the years and helped us out in so many ways.  Please pray for us as we will be doing presentations, giving updates, and sharing our vision for continued ministry with the Rec Center and KMM over the next few days.   I love sharing about the mission that God has called us too, but sometimes sharing in front of large groups can be quite intimidating.  Also, please pray for Erin as traveling and busy schedules take a toll this late in the pregnancy.  We are truly excited to see how God is going to use our time here and already thankful for the blessings we have received already!
