getting people in on a sunny day…

Today i am here working at the Lee County Recreational Center and waiting for people to come in and bowl and take advantage of all the fun activities our facility has to offer.  So far to be honest, it’s been pretty lonely.  The sun is out and shining brightly which means lots of people are out and about doing all kinds of fun activities outdoors.

So how do we draw people inside?  This is something that is on my mind today as I am pondering life’s many mysteries.  As we head into summer I know there are going to be many more beautiful summer days and we can’t afford to have an empty Rec Center.  Some of the things we have planned to deal with this issue are outdoor movie night’s, summer bowling leagues, Vacation Bible School, and various meal deals.  So, I guess the purpose of this post is what ideas do you have that we could do to compete with the beautiful weather?  Other than pray for rain that is!

pray for bowlers to return this week…

We decided not to bowl like this last week!

We decided not to bowl like this last week!

Last week we were covered in snow most of the week, followed by a weekend covered in ice.  Out of six possible days to have the Rec Center open for the community we only were able to open one day.  With the dangerous road conditions shutting down was the right choice and the safe choice.  However, we definitely needed the income that was lost to help keep the ministry of the Rec Center going.

I have been looking ahead at the weather reports for this coming week it looks like we might escape more snow and ice, but have some cold days.  As we look ahead we are very hopeful that all week we will be able to stay open all week.  We are praying that our bowlers will be excited to come back out after a week of not being able to bowl and our fitness people will want to get back to the gym.  At least today there is no school and so hopefully we will get  some students out bowling!

We need a good week of people coming back out to the Rec Center after being shut down last week.  Please pray for good weather and lots of people to come back to the Rec Center!

Bowling for Churches…

Bowling high qualityWhen KMM opened up the Lee County Recreational Center’s Bowling Center in November of 2007, we made the decision to close on Wednesday Nights and Sundays so that we would not be competing with local churches.  There are enough things going on that pull at our youth and adults to keep them from attending church.  At the same time, one of our goals has always been to be a tool for the local church to use bring people in to hear about Jesus.  So, when approached by churches we make exceptions to our closed rule and open up for various outreaches that a church wants to do.

Yesterday, Erin and I were blessed to open up on a normally closed for our church’s youth group to come out for a monthly youth activity.  A whole van load of kids from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Powell County came out and joined us for a fun afternoon of cosmic bowling to the latest contemporary Christian music and Christmas music, and eating lots of pizza.  We had a great time being able to let the kids enjoy the bowling and fellowshipping with the other youth leaders who brought the kids.  As I made lunch for everyone and watched the joy that this outing was bringing to our students, I was reminded of how thankful I am to be part of a ministry that uses sports and recreation as a tool to bring others to Christ.  And to be able to be an extension for our local churches to use is just another huge blessing.

Please keep the ministries of the Lee County Recreational Center in your prayers.  Pray that more churches in our area will take advantage of our facility for their outreaches.  Most importantly, keep praying that whether through Church outreaches or through our own Rec Center Outreaches, that we will be able to share Jesus with many more people!

youth bowling league starting back again…

After School Jr LeagueWith the start of our fall bowling leagues at the Rec Center also comes the start of our After School Youth Bowling League outreach!  This is a great outreach that we do where students K through 12 can come out each Monday, bowl two games of bowling, receive instruction, pizza, and a drink.  We are able to take buses and pick the students up at their schools and bring them out.  The parents can either pick the students up at the Rec Center or to one of three drop off points.  Over the past few years we have had lots of students participate in this program.  Much of the outreach portion has been through relational evangelism and had even had students accept Christ.  We have also had various times where we have presented the Gospel with our students with everyone listening.  This year we hope to have more times where the Gospel is shared corporately and then have solid Christian adults who are available to follow up with the students.  Please join me in praying that God will begin working in the lives of the students who are going to attend this outreach even now.  Pray that we will have a great turn out and that many student will choose to follow Christ!  Also, pray for plenty of adult volunteers to work with us with our student.  Also, consider whether or not you could volunteer a mere hour and a half a week to see lives changed for Christ!

come back and bowl…

August is a busy time of preparation at The Lee County Recreational Center.  As the summer closes we are busy gearing up with various outreach and activity plans for the fall and winter seasons.  One of the big things that we have accomplished is laying out what bowling leagues we will be having and when they will be starting.  Below is the flyer for when each individual league will be starting.

A prayer request I would like to ask of you is to pray that many people will come out and join these leagues.  Over the last year due to not having heat and air, as well as various other reasons our number of league bowlers has declined.  Our heat and air units are now up and running great and bowling is very comfortable.  The league bowlers are very much a huge part of us being able to keep our doors open and do various outreaches.  So please pray that we will have a great turnout!  Leagues not only help us but they truly are a great way to meet new people, build relationships and have lots of fun.  So if you live in this area, please consider joining a league yourself!

End of School Teen Lock-In

02. 2014 End of School Lock-INMany of you had been praying for our Golf Scramble fundraiser last weekend and I wanted to let you know how much we appreciated that.  God gave us a beautiful day for golf and everyone had a great time.  We were down a few golfers this year, but God blessed through some very generous sponsors!   Please continue to pray for us as we seek to raise money and get our air conditioning back up and running for this very hot summer that is coming.

This week though, we are gearing up for our End of School Teen Lock-In!!! On Friday night starting at 10 pm and going till 6am in the morning, we will be packed with 7th-12th graders.  Students will enjoy a fun night of cosmic bowling, bowling, ping pong and pool tournaments, karaoke, movies, and much more.  About half way through the night we will shut down everything and a guest speaker will share the Gospel with our students.   Please start praying with us for this event.  Pray that many students will come out.  Pray that we will have enough chaperones and helpers throughout the entire night.  Pray for our speaker that they will communicate the truth of God’s Word effectively to our students.  And most importantly, please pray for our students that they will have soft hearts and that many will make the decision to give their lives to Christ!

Lastly, please consider coming to join us for this outreach as a chaperone!  As our staff gets older we appreciate those who have a heart for our students and would help us with this fun event.  Hope to see you Friday night!!!

no sleep till 2014…

01. New Years 2013-2014 LockInAs this post goes out at 7:00 am on Tuesday, December 31st, it will be close to 24 to 26 hours until I crawl back home and make my way into bed.  The bad news is that I will be very very very tired, but the good news is that I will have survived another exciting New Year’s Eve at the Lee County Recreational Center.  Tonight at 10pm we will start our annual Teen Lock-In outreach that runs until 6:00 am.  We are expecting over 150 teens to come out and join us for a fun filled night of games, prizes, bowling, cosmic bowling, karaoke, movies, and much more.  KMM missionary Scott Brandenburg will be sharing a devotion with everyone about half way through the night.  The devotional time is the whole reason we have this event as we want to share the Gospel with every single person that attends.  Please be in prayer for Scott as he gets ready to speak to our teens and pray for the the teens that they will be open to the Gospel and that many would choose to give their lives to Christ.  Also, please be in prayer for our staff as we seek to build relationships with the students who attend to be able to share the Gospel with them, encourage them, connect them to local churches and Bible studies, and much more.  Also if you are interested in being a chaperone we are in need of adult volunteers to help us with everything from watching the doors to helping play games with the students.  Let us know if you are available to help!  More than anything please pray that God will bless this outreach and lives will be changed for Him!
