starting off my year right…

I know, I know, I know that New Year’s resolutions are usually those things that we say we are going to to do and then we never keep up with them.  If we are good we keep them for a week and if we are lucky sometimes maybe a month.  And yet we still keep trying to do them.  That’s where I find myself this year, back at trying to keep resolutions.

in_the_store_giftThe first resolution that I wanted to do this year was to find a devotional that I could work through during my quiet time throughout the year.  Thankfully for Christmas I was given a copy of New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp.  It’s a year long devotional that has a new thought for you to read each morning, then expands on that thought, and then sends you to scripture to reflect on what God says.  This devotional has been a huge blessing in my walk with Christ and is something that I honestly can’t wait to jump into each morning.  If you are looking for a good devotional to work through this year I highly recommend this one.

As always, my second resolution is to start taking better care of myself physically.  Erin and I were blessed with a gift at Christmas that allowed us to join our local YMCA.  We have been trying to do things as a family there to be healthy like swimming, but I’m also trying to get up early enough to go workout and get myself to a healthier weight and state of mind.  So far things are going well, and I am committed to really taking the necessary steps.  For some reason going to the gym isn’t as daunting when you don’t work there all the time!

There are many days left in 2017, but I am committed to becoming both spiritually and physically fit in the days, weeks, and months ahead!

back to my fitness pal…

Biggest Loser 01Over the years I’ve posted about trying to be better about taking care of myself and losing weight and getting in shape.  And to be honest it’s been a roller coaster struggle of up and down.  And before I get any further into this post, if you are one of my friends who sells some sort of product or program from a fitness or nutrition company, please do not think you have the answer and solicit me after reading this =).  Back to what I was saying it’s been a struggle.

I have been very happy with my time on Visalus and their various Body by Vi products.  However, it’s honestly just been a matter of finances.  When I joined the program I envisioned selling enough product to just pay for my own product.  I didn’t consider two important factors though.  First of all, I am just not pushy enough to bug people about trying my product.  Even though I believe in it and know it works when they tell me they aren’t interested I just am not the type of person who keeps pushing.  Secondly, I live in an area that just doesn’t care.  I would schedule parties and invite people to come out and try samples and no one would show up.  It was very frustrating and soon I found myself in a situation where I wasn’t having enough income from selling to take care of providing my own product.  I personally would love to get back on my Body by Vi program, but financially it’s jut not a possibility at the moment.  That being said, if you want to help me get back on the path to selling it, I would be more than happy to hook you up so that I can start back on a program I really do believe in!

sodaIn the mean time though, I have been very concerned about my own health and fitness after my father was diagnosed with Diabetes this past spring.  With a history of this disease in my family and now someone as close as my dad having it it’s really been a wake up call that I need to do a better job of taking care of myself.  While waiting to get to where I can better do things like my Body by Vi program, I knew I needed to do something now to help me with my biggest area of struggle diet.  That’s when I remembered my “My Fitness Pal” app on my phone.  With this app I have been really watching my intake of carbs and calories in an attempt to lose these extra pounds that are just not healthy to have on me.  I have also been avoiding drinking pop as much as possible.  Pop, soda, or whatever you call it is probably one of my greatest weaknesses.  So far I have gone 4 days without any pop and my goal is to go with out as much as possible, except for the occasional treat when eating out at a Restaurant.  The great thing about living where I do, is that I don’t have many restaurants to eat out at and have that temptation.

fitnesspalMy Fitness Pal has been great so far and has really kept me doing well on my diet.  I try to look at what the calories are in things before I eat them rather than eating them and then adding them into my daily diary.  That way if something is a big red flag that I shouldn’t be eating it, I don’t even bother.  Also, I am able to plan for meals where I am wanting to be a little more generous to myself, by being good before that meal.  In just a week of being back on the My Fitness Pal program I am already dropping weight as I have lost 2 lbs.

So, it’s time for me to get off this roller coaster.  It’s time for me to get a hold of my health once and for all. For the sake of my personal well being and for the sake of being the best healthy father and husband that I can be.  I appreciate all your prayers and encouragement as I dedicate myself to this journey!

resolutions and 2015…

It’s that time of year again where we all sit down and come up with various things that we resolve to do new and differently in the year that awaits us.  Last year I made several resolutions, and unlike many past years I am happy to report that I kept many of the ones that I shared with you at the beginning of 2015.   The only exception being wanting to be even more healthy and lose much needed weight.  Stress and life beat me on that one, but I am resolved for the sake of my family and kids to do a much better job of keeping that resolution in 2015.

Happy-New-Year-2015-Wallpaper-10The good news is that I did keep other resolutions.  The first one that I blogged about was that I wanted to be a better reader this year.  I took the book shelf challenge where you read for a year and fill a whole empty shelf with all the books that you read over the course of the year.  I read well over 20 books this year and really enjoyed getting back to reading.  My shelf looks not quite full, but that’s because I discovered the joy of reading on my tablet in the dark at night so that I wouldn’t wake up my wife.  It is also much easier and quicker to get books that way when you live rurally.  My goal this year is to read even more!

Another goal that I made and kept was to be a better note taker when in church.  At the beginning of 2014 I bought a note book and diligently began taking notes in sermons or any other time I was able to listen to someone sharing God’s word.  By the end of the year my notebook is full and I actually just bought a new journal/notebook and am excited to fill it with more teachings and insights from God’s Word in 2015.

Looking ahead at 2015, my main resolution is to try to become more balanced in life.  To find the balance between work/ministry and being there to be the father my family needs me to be.  I want to be the father that shows his kids a Godly example in every area of life and I want them to know how much I love them and will be there for them.  I am truly excited to see what God is going to do in 2015!

90 Day Body By Vi Challenge Update – Week 7

BodyByVi90daychallengeLogoAnother week is down in my 90 Day Body by Vi Challenge and another pound is down!  While progress has been slower this time around I am still happy to be seeing results on the scale and also around my waist.   For the past two weeks I have really enjoyed trying new frozen berry and fruit combos in my shakes.  I also went back to an old favorite of chocolate peanut butter vi-shakes.  I have found though that the frozen fruit and berry combo shakes are definitely the most filling of my home mixes.

As this challenge gets closer t the end, I would love for you to join me.  If you would like a sample or more information about the benefits and results of Visalus products please contact me and lets get you on the path to a healthier you!

90 Day Body By Vi Challenge Update – Week 6

BodyByVi90daychallengeLogoI can’t believe it’s already been two weeks since my last 90 Day Challenge update.  Last week due to being on vacation, I didn’t have time to write an update, and honestly, due to eating out some I didn’t have anything to report.  However, now I am back and reporting that I am once again losing weight.   I am down another 1.5 lbs. making my total weight loss for this challenge so far 8.5 lbs.  I know this is not a ton of weight, but I definitely can tell I am slimming and feeling much better, which to me is just as important as the numbers on the scale.

To help bring about some more diversity to my vi-shakes this past week I bought a lot of frozen fruit to start adding to my daily vi-shake regimen.  My personal favorite that I have to recommend is Wal-Mart’s triple berry mix!  This frozen berry mix contains strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.  When blended with the vi-shake mix and some skim milk, a smoothie almost as good as Jamba Juice comes together!

How about you?  Are you ready to join me on my journey to becoming healthier?  I would love to share with you about the benefits of using Visalus products.  Contact me today and let’s get started!

90 Day Body By Vi Challenge Update – Week 3

Blog-Transformation-Kit-Are-you-up-for-the-ChallengeAnother week has passed in my 90 Day Challenge and this week was definitely a tough one.  Over the weekend my family and I travelled to Ohio where I shared with a church about KMM ministries and our role here with KMM.   The problem with travel and staying in a hotel is while very relaxing and a nice change of pace, it’s pretty much impossible to keep up with the Vi-Shakes.  That being said, I really had to monitor what I took in on my, My Fitness Pal app to make sure I wasn’t totally destroying all I had worked so hard to accomplish on my 90 Day Challenge thus far.   Thankfully , I stood strong for the most part and am happy to report to you that I am another 2 lbs down this week, for a grand total of 8 lbs. lost in 3 weeks!   I am continuing to feel a difference as the weight is dropping both in how I feel and look.  I also am continuing to notice a difference in how much I am able to eat.  One of my weaknesses has always been eating a big bowl of popcorn in the evening.   Finishing off that bowl is usually not a problem.  Last night, however, I hadn’t eaten much all day, but I could barely eat half a bowl of popcorn.  Yeah Progress!!!

I would like to once again invite you to join me on my weight-loss journey to healthiness.  I implore you not to keep waiting to start watching what you eat and dropping those pesky lbs.  Join me today and lets start being a healthier us right away!
