patience…patience…patience…and exhaustion…

patienceThe past few weeks and the next few weeks are all becoming one big whirlwind that has not gone as expected, but is still going nonetheless.  As I have shared on here before, my wife and I are in the middle of getting ready to move and to transition to a new ministry with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  In my plans we were going to close on our current home  at the end of May and close and move into our new home at the beginning of June.  However, that was not to be.

We have had a month of thinking we are going to close on our current home one day only to be pushed back a week, and then another and then another.  Every day was a reminder  that everything is pretty much out of my control and left up to God and his timing.  It seems like He has been daily teaching and lessons in patience and dependence on Him.  It’s been overwhelming as I look at my upcoming schedule of various ministry events before I leave KMM, taking kids to FCA camp, and a plethora of other things coming up and wondering how we will be able to close and move at the same time.  More and more to trust God with for sure.

If all goes well, we are finally going to close on our new home this week and then the last week of June close on our new home and move.  The good news is that the ball finally looks to be rolling and we are so excited to see progress.  Please be praying for us as we have much to do in the next two weeks to finish packing, close on our current and new home, and in the middle of it take kids to FCA Camp.  Overwhelmed and exhausted are things we already area and know are going to be more intense.  Pray for strength and energy to get everything done that we need to get done.  Pray that we will continue to be patient and trust God as we know that when dealing with banks dates can still change.  God’s got it all in control and we know at the end of all this chaos, He has great things in store for our family!

in case you missed the news…

Last week, I posted on our ministry site http://www.andyanderin.net that my wife and I were going to be leaving the current ministry we work with later this summer to work full time with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Here is our prayer letter making the announcement.  I’ll definitely be posting more soon!

pray for our huddles…

UnDefeated-Logos_3_legacyFor the last several years, my wife Erin and I have been blessed to help lead FCA Huddles at our local high school and middle school.  One of hte trends we have seen over the years is that one year a school will be up and another will be down in huddle attendance and then the next year it will switch.

This year we are in one of those years where our middle school huddle is really booming with 30 to 40 students attending each week.  The kids are eager to attend and we have had some truly great interaction with them.  Our high school huddle on the other hand is in a bit more of a down year.  We have about 6 to 8 students who attend faithfully and we are truly thankful for the growth we have seen in their lives.  At the same time it has been very disheartning at the high school as each week I have seen many kids who have came to FCA in the past and even attended leadership camps with us, just walking the hallways and not coming to our huddles.  Most of these students I have been able to speak with and invite back and thankfully they aren’t coming because of being upset or anything like that.  Honestly, they don’t really have any reason other than not making the effort to be there.

Please join me in faithfully praying for all our FCA students, but especially the high school students.  Pray for the ones that are faithful and wanting to grow in their walk with Christ, that they wouldn’t be distracted and sidetracked like it seems so many other students have been.  Pray for the students who are not attending, that God would become a priority in their life.  We would love to have them back at FCA, but more than anything want to see them strive to grow in their walk with God and impact their schools for Christ.  And lastly, pray for a group I haven’t event mentioned, our students who have graduated and are in college that they would continue to seek fellowship with other believers and grow in their relationship with Christ.

back to school…

UnDefeated-Logos_3_legacyA couple of weeks ago we started back to school with our weekly FCA Huddles at Lee County High School and Middle School. It’s been great getting back to seeing our students each week and being able to share with them from God’s word in their schools.  The exciting thing to report has been the growth in our Middle School FCA Huddle.  This year we are averaging over 40 students a week and they are not only excited to be there, but they are bringing their friends.  Our Huddle at the high school is doing well in that we have a faithful core group of students who are coming and we are really enjoying getting to know better. However, we have lost a lot of students who came last year.  Please pray for us that we will be able to get these students to come back and participate.  Also, be praying for my wife Erin as she is hoping to start a Bible study with some of our older FCA students and even one or two of our former students.  We are excited to see God do something great this year through our FCA Huddles and as you to pray for us and our students each day!

slow summer day…

rec center signageToday, has been a slow one so far here at the Rec Center.  Not a lot of people coming in to take advantage of our fitness center or bowling today.  It’s the time of year where many people are on vacation or out of town and so I know that slows things down a bit.  At the same time there are many people that could come out that aren’t.  Please pray that people will come out and use our facility and most importantly that we will have opportunities to interact with our community, build relationships, and share Christ.  We want to take full advantage of every opportunity that Christ gives us here at the Lee County Rec Center and we ask you to pray for our faithfulness to do so.

Golf Fundraiser time…

01. Golf_Tournamet_Flyer2 copyIt’s that time of year where I am getting ready for the Lee County Recreational Center’s biggest fundraiser, our Golf tournament on May 9th!  If you notice I said Golf Tournament and not Scramble this year.  For 2015 we are doing something different by moving our fundraiser to Sag Hollow Golf Club in Booneville, KY.  With this move we are able to guarantee we will have carts for everyone involved and therefore we don’t have to scramble the teams to make sure  no one walks.  With this being the case we are able to open our event to more people who would like to bring full teams to compete.  This year we are also trying to get businesses to enter teams into our event or to sponsor teams for those who can’t afford to golf on their own.  The cost of the tournament is $200 a team, but we are also having a cash prizes this year too!  For lunch this year we will once again be having a cookout from noon to 2 pm.  As always we will have lots of burgers, hot dogs, sausages, and plenty of homemade desserts.  The cost of lunch is just whatever you would like to donate to the Rec Center!  You don’t have to be in the Golf Tournament to come eat with us, anyone is welcome to join us!

So how can you help?  First and foremost please pray for us!  As I have shared before the Rec Center is in serious need of financial help to keep our various ministries going.  Pray that God will use this event to generate some much needed income.  Next pray about what role God would have you play in this event.  Perhaps you can put a team together or sponsor some teens who would like to play but need help with their entry fee?  Maybe you know a business or people who would be interested in sponsoring teams and you could encourage them to do so!  Please help us by spreading the word about this fundraiser.  At the bottom of this post is a pdf of our flyer, please print copies and share with friends you think might come and help us!  We need your prayers, your support, and your attendance for this event.  Please join us!

searching for funding…

photo_8324_carouselWell, I am about to get in over my head again and dive full force into the world of grant writing.  The Lee County Recreational Center needs more funding for equipment, building maintenance, staffing, and ministry outreaches.  We are still seeking to generate more funding from our community, but the need for funding from outside resources such as grants is very real.

This week I began working with a company that assists in helping finding grants for non profits and next week I will have a more in depth training.  They are going to show me more of the what and where to look for funding that could possibly help us keep the ministry of the Lee County Recreational Center and various other ministries of KMM going.  Not only going, but hopefully thriving, so that more focus can be on the ministry aspects and less on the financial.

As I blogged about last summer, I was able to work on and help get a grant for the Rec Center through AT&T.  The biggest thing I learned through that experience is just how little I know about the world of grant writing and once again how over my head it all is.  So, the reason for this post is asking for your prayers.   Please pray that God will first of all direct us to grant options that can really help us out.  Pray for wisdom for me as I try to fill out and write all the information needed with clarity.  I want to be able to express well, the needs of this needed ministry.  Also, pray for time to be able to put in to do well on the grant writing process.  We are short staffed and so I have to be able to find balance between time to get all I need to get done with the Rec Center,FCA, all the ministries I’m involved in, and to also make sure I am giving my family the quality time that they need from me.  It’s a lot to think about, process and look forward to, so please join me in praying!
