getting ready for the Super Bowl…

SuperbowlbannerOne of my favorite outreaches that I am involved in each year is our annual Lee County FCA Super Bowl Party.  My wife and I, invite all our local FCA students over to our house for a fun night of watching the big game, funny commercials, and eating lots of good food.  As soon as time winds down in the second quarter we turn off the tv and settle the students down for some time in The Word.  Each year I make sure to do a full Gospel presentation for students that might not know Christ and also a challenge to those students who have put their faith in Christ.  This year will be no different in that all our students will be challenged to examine themselves and where they are in their walk with Christ, and if they have one at all.  Please be praying for all our students in the next few days leading up to this outreach that God would already begin working in their hearts and that they would make a decision to fully follow him on Sunday.  Also, please be praying for me as I prepare to share a challenge to them from God’s Word.  Yes, we are expecting to have fun on Sunday, but most importantly we are expecting God to do great things!!!

back to school…

UnDefeated-Logos_3_legacyA couple of weeks ago we started back to school with our weekly FCA Huddles at Lee County High School and Middle School. It’s been great getting back to seeing our students each week and being able to share with them from God’s word in their schools.  The exciting thing to report has been the growth in our Middle School FCA Huddle.  This year we are averaging over 40 students a week and they are not only excited to be there, but they are bringing their friends.  Our Huddle at the high school is doing well in that we have a faithful core group of students who are coming and we are really enjoying getting to know better. However, we have lost a lot of students who came last year.  Please pray for us that we will be able to get these students to come back and participate.  Also, be praying for my wife Erin as she is hoping to start a Bible study with some of our older FCA students and even one or two of our former students.  We are excited to see God do something great this year through our FCA Huddles and as you to pray for us and our students each day!

slow summer day…

rec center signageToday, has been a slow one so far here at the Rec Center.  Not a lot of people coming in to take advantage of our fitness center or bowling today.  It’s the time of year where many people are on vacation or out of town and so I know that slows things down a bit.  At the same time there are many people that could come out that aren’t.  Please pray that people will come out and use our facility and most importantly that we will have opportunities to interact with our community, build relationships, and share Christ.  We want to take full advantage of every opportunity that Christ gives us here at the Lee County Rec Center and we ask you to pray for our faithfulness to do so.

Golf Fundraiser time…

01. Golf_Tournamet_Flyer2 copyIt’s that time of year where I am getting ready for the Lee County Recreational Center’s biggest fundraiser, our Golf tournament on May 9th!  If you notice I said Golf Tournament and not Scramble this year.  For 2015 we are doing something different by moving our fundraiser to Sag Hollow Golf Club in Booneville, KY.  With this move we are able to guarantee we will have carts for everyone involved and therefore we don’t have to scramble the teams to make sure  no one walks.  With this being the case we are able to open our event to more people who would like to bring full teams to compete.  This year we are also trying to get businesses to enter teams into our event or to sponsor teams for those who can’t afford to golf on their own.  The cost of the tournament is $200 a team, but we are also having a cash prizes this year too!  For lunch this year we will once again be having a cookout from noon to 2 pm.  As always we will have lots of burgers, hot dogs, sausages, and plenty of homemade desserts.  The cost of lunch is just whatever you would like to donate to the Rec Center!  You don’t have to be in the Golf Tournament to come eat with us, anyone is welcome to join us!

So how can you help?  First and foremost please pray for us!  As I have shared before the Rec Center is in serious need of financial help to keep our various ministries going.  Pray that God will use this event to generate some much needed income.  Next pray about what role God would have you play in this event.  Perhaps you can put a team together or sponsor some teens who would like to play but need help with their entry fee?  Maybe you know a business or people who would be interested in sponsoring teams and you could encourage them to do so!  Please help us by spreading the word about this fundraiser.  At the bottom of this post is a pdf of our flyer, please print copies and share with friends you think might come and help us!  We need your prayers, your support, and your attendance for this event.  Please join us!

searching for funding…

photo_8324_carouselWell, I am about to get in over my head again and dive full force into the world of grant writing.  The Lee County Recreational Center needs more funding for equipment, building maintenance, staffing, and ministry outreaches.  We are still seeking to generate more funding from our community, but the need for funding from outside resources such as grants is very real.

This week I began working with a company that assists in helping finding grants for non profits and next week I will have a more in depth training.  They are going to show me more of the what and where to look for funding that could possibly help us keep the ministry of the Lee County Recreational Center and various other ministries of KMM going.  Not only going, but hopefully thriving, so that more focus can be on the ministry aspects and less on the financial.

As I blogged about last summer, I was able to work on and help get a grant for the Rec Center through AT&T.  The biggest thing I learned through that experience is just how little I know about the world of grant writing and once again how over my head it all is.  So, the reason for this post is asking for your prayers.   Please pray that God will first of all direct us to grant options that can really help us out.  Pray for wisdom for me as I try to fill out and write all the information needed with clarity.  I want to be able to express well, the needs of this needed ministry.  Also, pray for time to be able to put in to do well on the grant writing process.  We are short staffed and so I have to be able to find balance between time to get all I need to get done with the Rec Center,FCA, all the ministries I’m involved in, and to also make sure I am giving my family the quality time that they need from me.  It’s a lot to think about, process and look forward to, so please join me in praying!

What are you doing on New Years Eve???

01. New Years 2014-2015i know this post is coming a few weeks early, but I really really need your help.  On New Year’s Eve we are holding our annual New Years Eve Teen Lock-In.  We are expecting around 150 area 7th through 12th graders to come to this outreach.  Throughout the night we will have bowling, cosmic bowling, games, karaoke, prizes, food, a guest speaker and much more.  As always, our main purpose is to share the Gospel with these teens.  This is a great opportunity to share Jesus and keep our teens in a safe environment on a night when there are many less than wholesome options for them to participate in.

In order to do this event though we depend on our KMM staff and volunteers from Lee County and surrounding communities.  With so many kids we need adults to help us chaperone by interacting with the kids, watching the doors, making sure kids are following the rules, and also just building relationships to share Jesus with our students.  Without volunteers this event and our other lock-ins really wouldn’t be possible.

Unfortunately our surplus of volunteers has dwindled over the past few years.  Between helpers getting older, having other commitments, moving away, and various reasons our number of volunteers at each lock-in has decreased.  God has been great  in making sure that we have just enough help, but as I look to the future i am concerned about how many more lock-ins we can keep having without more help.

So how can you help???  First of all, pray that we will have more than enough volunteers for this outreach and many more to come.  Next, consider volunteering yourself.  I know that a lot of people can’t stay all night long, but even if you could stay for the first half of the night, or come in for the last half of the night, that would be a great help and blessing to us.  If you feel led to volunteer, please contact me asap.  You can reach me via email, Facebook, or give me a ring at the Lee County Recreational Center.

I hope to hear from you soon!!!

Bowling for Churches…

Bowling high qualityWhen KMM opened up the Lee County Recreational Center’s Bowling Center in November of 2007, we made the decision to close on Wednesday Nights and Sundays so that we would not be competing with local churches.  There are enough things going on that pull at our youth and adults to keep them from attending church.  At the same time, one of our goals has always been to be a tool for the local church to use bring people in to hear about Jesus.  So, when approached by churches we make exceptions to our closed rule and open up for various outreaches that a church wants to do.

Yesterday, Erin and I were blessed to open up on a normally closed for our church’s youth group to come out for a monthly youth activity.  A whole van load of kids from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Powell County came out and joined us for a fun afternoon of cosmic bowling to the latest contemporary Christian music and Christmas music, and eating lots of pizza.  We had a great time being able to let the kids enjoy the bowling and fellowshipping with the other youth leaders who brought the kids.  As I made lunch for everyone and watched the joy that this outing was bringing to our students, I was reminded of how thankful I am to be part of a ministry that uses sports and recreation as a tool to bring others to Christ.  And to be able to be an extension for our local churches to use is just another huge blessing.

Please keep the ministries of the Lee County Recreational Center in your prayers.  Pray that more churches in our area will take advantage of our facility for their outreaches.  Most importantly, keep praying that whether through Church outreaches or through our own Rec Center Outreaches, that we will be able to share Jesus with many more people!
